2011 ELG Spring Summit was a Success!
Nearly 100 people attended this free, open-to-the-public event
Thanks to everyone who joined us on April 11th at the EMU Student Center. We were delighted to have such a great turnout, and to see so many supportive community members in the room. Thanks to EMU for providing some great photos.
State legislators, local elected officials, business leaders, artists, non-profit sector professionals, educators, and other supportive community members joined in the program. We were welcomed by EMU President Dr. Susan W. Martin, and Chair of Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners Conan Smith. Surprise guest Senator Rebekah Warren provided us with an update on the State Budget situation, and we also heard a Special Message from Congressman John Dingell’s Office.
The presentation portion of the program included remarks on economic strategies and emerging secondary education trends from:
Elizabeth Parkinson – Senior VP, Michigan Economic
Development Corporation
Bryce Kelley – Interim Manager, Aerotropolis
Development Corporation
Verna McDaniel – Washtenaw County
Administrator and ELG Co-Chair
Genelle Allen – Interim CEO, Wayne County
Airport Authority
Leigh Greden – Executive Director, Government
& Community Relations at EMU and ELG Co-Chair
Rick Leyshock – Interim Superintendent,
Washtenaw Intermediate School District
The audience also participated in a visioning exercise, and were invited to create their own headlines in response to the following question:
Ten years from now, what would you like to see as a
major
news headline about Eastern Washtenaw County?
Here's the responses we received:
The event ended on a high note, with the debut of this year's Eastern Leaders Group Video: Partners for Progress.
